Great emotions, moving stories, and captivating performances: the BAMBI 2024 media awards ceremony offered all that and more. Broadcast live for the first time by Prime Video, around 1,000 invited guests at the Bavaria Studios celebrated extraordinary personalities whose courage, talent, and commitment bring hope in uncertain times.
"For us, BAMBI has always been and continues to be a symbol of hope, confidence, and the joy of life," emphasized Burda CEO Philipp Welte in his opening remarks. The Golden Deer was awarded in 13 categories to both national and international honorees. The recognition of Margot Friedländer (103) was especially emotional: as a Holocaust survivor, she received the BAMBI in the "Courage" category and moved the audience with her appeal, "Be human!"
Kevin Costner brought Hollywood flair as he was honored as "International Actor," while Jella Haase ("National Actress") and Lars Eidinger ("National Actor") represented German cinema. Shirin David captivated audiences as the winner in the "National Music" category with an energetic performance. Robbie Williams, himself honored in "Entertainment," lived up to the title and paid tribute to Toni Kroos (Sports), who, as Germany's most successful footballer, sets a clear example of social engagement.
Equally touching was the recognition of "Die Arche" (Silent Heroes) for their tireless support for children in need, while Reinhold Messner ("Our Earth") impressed with his passionate commitment to environmental conservation. In the audience vote for "Best Series of the Year," "Maxton Hall" triumphed, leaving lead actress Harriet Herbig-Matten cheering with joy.
The crowning finale was provided by Bryan Adams, who was honored in the "Legend" category. With his hits, he delivered goosebump-inducing moments and standing ovations – a spectacular conclusion to an evening that once again celebrated hope, community, and the joy of life with the Golden Deer.
