With his documentary film hit DIE UNBEUGSAMEN, director Torsten Körner gave visibility to the female politicians of the Bonn Republic and their struggle for political participation. Now, in the sequel DIE UNBEUGSAMEN 2 – GUTEN MORGEN, IHR SCHÖNEN!, he shifts his gaze beyond the Iron Curtain and portrays confident women from various sectors of GDR society.
In total, 15 protagonists describe with impressive openness how, in the "land of state-mandated equality," patriarchal structures nonetheless shaped everyday life. Their retrospective view paints a multifaceted picture of gender relations and offers insights into the daily life of the workers’ and peasants’ state—a state that liked to present itself as progressive, yet brought its own unique challenges for many women.
With DIE UNBEUGSAMEN 2, Torsten Körner creates a vivid group portrait that celebrates the remarkable life paths of East German women while also shedding light on their ongoing struggles for equal opportunities. In doing so, he broadens the perspective on the role of women in political and social decision-making processes as well as their influence on shaping our society today.
